Kandi is a small city between Parakou and the Benin/ Niger border. It is 200 km north of Parakou and a further 110 km to Malanville, where the border post is. The river Niger flows along the northern boundary of Malanville and forms the frontier between the two countries.

the national road is being re-surfaced. It passes through, among others, a small village called "Petit Paris".

From Kandi, it is possible to drive west on a new road leading to Banikoara and the " W " game park and camp
