Three
years ago our company decided to organise a railway tour
to the north of Benin.
We wanted our guests to be able to travel by train, as was
done in Benin 100 years ago, from Cotonou in the south to
the end of the Railway line at Parakou in the north.
We purchased three 1920's railway coaches and refurbished
them to a standard that would have been available to the
first class travellers of that time.
And so "Train
d’Ebene" (Ebony train) was born.
It travels on a single narrow gauge track (1 m) from Cotonou
to Parakou stopping at many of the interesting sights along
the way and allows one to encounter the Beninese people,
their culture, and their history.
